GCs for multinationals take care selecting legal talent in Latin America

September 20, 2012 - Daily Business Review - Luis Salazar, of the Miami boutique Salazar Jackson, relies on referrals from conferences and in-house counsel acquaintances from a 20-year career, half of it spent at Greenberg. He has worked on cross-border insolvency cases and data-privacy issues in Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina and Mexico.
Recently he handled a data-privacy law compliance review of a Florida-based multi-national's Mexican subsidiaries. He reviewed compliance, oversight and reporting and produced an audit, working with local lawyers on labor issues.
Salazar declined to say how much of his firm's work involves compliance, but he obviously likes what he gets. "When the projects come they're substantial and challenging and if I average one every couple months, I'm pretty happy."
