South Florida Business Journal interviews Luis Salazar on Defense Verdict in Fraud Trial

Silvia Piñera-Vazquez of the Piñera-Vazquez Law Firm and Luis Salazar of Salazar Law represented defendant Dr. Carlos E. Mahecha, securing a not guilty jury verdict after a three-week jury trial in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida. The trial regarded fraud allegations tied to a Bal Harbour real estate development.

Salazar said his client testified in his defense for two days during the three-week trial, and Arcila also took the stand. They described this as a real estate project that didn’t go as planned, but there was no evidence of fraud or intent to defraud, he said.
“He was anxious to do it, and he was waiting for a long time to do it,” Salazar said of his client’s testimony. “He was honest, and his intent was to recover for investors at all times …. There was no fraudulent intent.”
